Five Workshops on Sharks & Rays
Respect. Nature. History.
To create an Understanding of Sharks & Rays
Why These Workshops?
The difference between a brief sighting and a real encounter underwater lies in understanding.
When you know what triggers an animal, how its behavior reflects its biology and history, and how to move within its comfort zone, your role as a diver changes.
Recognizing Behavior & Responding Correctly
Sharks and rays constantly respond to stimuli in their environment. Each species has unique patterns. In this practical section, you’ll learn:
- Why an animal hides, hunts, or flees
- How it allows cleaning or approaches curiosity
- How to adjust your own behavior so you pose no threat
The result? Animals are more likely to reveal themselves.
You stay safe, respectful, and calm, and your underwater experience deepens naturally.
Small Groups, Maximum Attention
These workshops are taught in small, focused groups, allowing for:
The small group size ensures that every participant can ask questions, engage fully, and receive guidance tailored to their experience level.
Key Benefits
Dive calmer and more consciously
Better interpret animal behavior
Make interactions more natural
Overview of the Five Workshops

Workshop 1 – Species Identification
Learn to identify individual species. What should you look for? Which features help you determine which shark or ray is swimming with you? This foundation is key for all following workshops.

Workshop 2 – Biological Traits
What traits make an animal a shark or a ray? And how do these traits benefit the animal itself? Understanding these traits is essential to understanding behavior.

Workshop 3 – Senses, Stimuli, and Safety
Discover how sharks and rays use their senses for hunting, defense, and reproduction. Apex predators may occasionally react aggressively; understanding this increases your safety. Prey species are more likely to flee. Recognizing this difference is essential.

Workshop 4 – Evolution of Sharks
Learn how sharks have evolved over 450 million years, from ancient times to the modern shark. Gain insight into how these animals adapted over millions of years to survive and thrive.

Workshop 5 – Human Impact
A confronting workshop on human impact on shark populations. Finning is not the whole story; the reality today is more complex and closer to home than many people think.
